The Division of Pediatric Neurology is dedicated to improving the health of children with neurological diseases in the southeast region of the United States while setting the standard of excellence in pediatric neurology through comprehensive patient care, education of current and future neurologists, and innovative research. We strive to foster a collaborative and inclusive environment that promotes continuous improvement in all our endeavors.

- Our physicians are currently doing active clinical and translation research in the following areas: Duchene Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), Chronic Inflammatory Demyelinating Polyneuropathy (CIDP), Dravet syndrome, PNPO Deficiency, Childhood Absence Epilepsy, Juvenile Absence Epilepsy, Chronodisruption in Dystrophinopathy, Atypical Neurological and Neuromuscular diseases, Rett syndrome & other MECP2 related syndromes, including gene therapy research for Rett syndrome, CDKL5 Deficiency Disorder, Pediatric Strokes, Neuromyelitis Optica Spectrum Disorder, Pediatric Multiple Sclerosis, Neuroinflammatory diseases, Epilepsy with Myoclonic Atonic Seizures (EMAS), Pediatric Headache & Migraine, Transition of Care in Epilepsy
- Our team also includes amazing nurses and administrators, social workers, dieticians, child life specialists, pastoral care, and other support staff. We are all committed to walking with you are your child as you journey through life with a neurologic diagnosis.
The Division of Pediatric Neurology provides inpatient consultative services at both Children's of Alabama and UAB Hospital regional NICU. In addition, the service administers and directs a 8 bed inpatient Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.
Help End Epilepsy Specialty Car Tag
A specialty license plate is available to residents of Alabama who want to show their support of children with pediatric epilepsy. In a collaboration between the Pediatric Epilepsy Program at Children’s of Alabama and the Epilepsy Foundation of Alabama, the Help End Epilepsy tag is providing valuable funding for patient care, education, research, and specialized physician training for the Pediatric Epilepsy Program at Children’s of Alabama.
You can renew or purchase your Help End Epilepsy specialty tag at any Alabama Department of Motor Vehicle location for a cost of $50 – and $41.25 of that will be donated to Children’s.

New Patient Consultations:
Appointments are made by physician referral only. A physician makes a referral by completing the Specialty Clinic Appointment Form and faxing it to 205-638-2602, along with a Medicaid Referral (if this applies). Fax all relevant* records, labs, EEG or EMG, and imaging reports to 205-638-2602.
Please note: If referring a patient for headache, the PCP Headache Referral Checklist must be completed and sent by referring provider.
