Service Opportunities
- Helping Patients and Families: Assist with navigation and provide a friendly face to those in need.
- Activities in Waiting Areas: Engage patients and families with fun and supportive activities.
- Departmental Support: Offer valuable assistance to various hospital departments.
Educational Component
Participants will gain insights into the different medical and non-medical disciplines at Children's of Alabama, enhancing their understanding of hospital operations and healthcare careers.

Volunteer Requirements
- Age: Teens ages 16-18
- When: The Summer Teen Program is a half day program Monday - Thursday. Shifts will take place from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. with a required Lunch and Learn at noon.
- Where: Children’s of Alabama downtown campus
- Cost: Volunteer uniform is $15
- Commitment: Applicants must commit to a four week session. Two absences will be allowed.
Onboarding Process
Prior to volunteering the applicant must complete:
- Online application
- Provide copy of Tdap, MMR and Varicella vaccination records
- Letter of Reference from a teacher, coach or mentor
- Submit an essay
- Interview where you will learn program expectations, the onboarding process and specific details about available volunteer openings
- Tuberculosis blood test
- Online hospital orientation courses
