Audiology
The diagnostic audiology division of The Charity League Speech and Hearing Center at Children’s of Alabama has the goal of providing the best possible audiological care and treatment for children in Alabama and surrounding states. Our nationally certified and state licensed audiology professionals maintain yearly requirements for continuing education in order to keep current in new technology, knowledge, and techniques in the rapidly changing field of audiology.
Services
Realizing that every child is unique, we tailor each evaluation and treatment plan to meet the needs of every family and child that comes to us, regardless of condition of developmental level. Available audiometric testing services offered at Children’s of Alabama include:
- Auditory Evoked Potential Testing (AEP/ABR)
- Unsedated Testing
- Sedated Testing following behavioral testing and medical clearance
- Behavioral Testing (pure tone and speech audiometry)
- Immittance Testing including tympanometry and acoustic reflex testing
- Otoacoustic Emissions Testing (OAE)
The diagnostic audiology division works in collaboration with other specialty clinics to provide a multidisciplinary approach. We work closely with many disciplines including Otolaryngology, Plastic Surgery, Neurology, Speech Pathology, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Hematology/Oncology, Pulmonology, Psychiatry, and others. We also regularly follow high risk populations and provide newborn hearing screenings to infants in the NICU, SCU and CVICU.
