BEREAVED PARENTS PROGRAM

Individual and Family Counseling

Individual and family counseling is available at no set fee to parents or grandparents anticipating or grieving the loss of a child or grandchild. To set up an appointment, or for more information, please contact 205-638-7481. 

Group Counseling

Group counseling is also available to bereaved parents. There are both ongoing groups as well as short term groups. Some groups offered include Parents Peer Support, Mothers Group, Fathers Group, and Infant Loss Group. Other loss specific groups may be offered short term to meet the needs of clients. The Amelia Center requires an initial interview with one of our counselors before being allowed to participate. To set up an appointment, or for more information, please contact 205-638-7481.

Intake Forms
Intake forms need to be completed before your first session with one of our counselors. You can download/print these and complete them prior to your first appointment to expedite the process.

CHILD TEEN PROGRAM

Individual and Family Counseling

Individual and family counseling is available at no set fee to children (age 5 and above), teenagers, and young adults (age 19-21) anticipating or grieving the loss of a parent, grandparent, sibling, close relative or friend. We provide a safe place for children and teenagers to creatively express feelings for which they might not even have words. Through art, play, and expression, children and teenagers can find hope.

To set up an appointment, or for more information, please contact 205-638-7481.  If your child or teen is age 13 or younger, the first appointment will be with the guardian(s) without the child present. The counselor will begin meeting with the child or teen at the second appointment.

Group Counseling

Group counseling is offered for children (age 5 and above) and teenagers. Our children and teen groups are short term groups that allow individuals the opportunity to share with others that have had similar experiences. Other loss specific groups may be offered to meet the needs of clients. The Amelia Center requires an initial interview with one of our counselors before being allowed to participate.
