AIC-CURE Hospital of Kenya (Kijabe, Kenya)

CURE International, a nonprofit organization based in Pennsylvania, partnered with the African Inland Church in 1998 and opened the CURE Hospital of Kenya, making it Africa’s first orthopedic teaching hospital for children with disabilities. The hospital has 30 beds, treats approximately 8,000 children a year and performs about 1,500 surgeries. In addition, the hospital operates mobile clinics to serve children in remote regions. Surgeons from Children’s of Alabama partner with local physicians to perform orthopedic surgery at AIC-CURE Hospital of Kenya.

Children’s Hospital #1 (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam)

Built in 1954, Children’s Hospital #1 is the oldest pediatric hospital in Vietnam. It is located in Ho Chi Minh City, where the population is estimated at more than 8 million people. The hospital averages 5,000-6,000 outpatient visits per day and has 1,400 beds. Nearly two-thirds of the hospital’s patients are from outside Ho Chi Minh City. Surgeons from Children’s of Alabama perform pediatric surgery at Children’s Hospital #1.

Children’s Hospital #2 (Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam)

Children’s Hospital #2 is located less than four miles away from Children’s Hospital #1, in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Equipped with over 1,000 beds, the hospital treats about 5,000 outpatients and hospitalizations a day. Surgeons from Children’s of Alabama partner with local physicians to perform neurosurgery, pediatric surgery and craniofacial surgery at Children’s Hospital #2.

Hospital de Especialidades Pediatricas Tuxtla Gutierrez (Chiapas, Mexico)

Hospital de Especialidades Pediatricas is located in Tuxtla Gutierrez, the capital city of Chiapas, Mexico. Chiapas is the 7th most populated state in Mexico but is also one of the poorest, with 46 percent of workers earning less than Mexico’s minimum wage. Nearly two-thirds of pediatric patients have no health insurance.

The 90-bed hospital has a cardiology team and a heart surgeon on staff. Hospital de Especialidades Pediatricas has partnered with two other hospitals in neighboring villages; together they have more than 600 children waiting to receive cardiovascular-related surgical treatment. Surgeons from Children’s of Alabama partner with local physicians to perform cardiovascular surgery at Hospital de Especialidades Pediatricas.

Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (Kumasi, Ghana)

Located in Kumasi, the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital is the second largest hospital in Ghana and the only tertiary health institution in the Ashanti Region. The hospital was built in 1954 and was converted in 1975 to a teaching hospital affiliated with the School of Medical Sciences of the University of Science and Technology, Kumasi. The hospital now has 1,200 beds. Surgeons from Children’s of Alabama partner with local physicians to perform neurosurgery and craniofacial surgery at Komfo Anyokye Teaching Hospital.
