Rehabilitation Medicine at Lakeshore

 

Children’s at Lakeshore UAB Division of Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine provides services for children and adolescents with acute onset or chronically disabling conditions that can benefit from the additional focus on sports, fitness, recreation, and healthy lifestyles provided by Lakeshore Foundation. Together with children and family members, this unique collaboration:

  • Addresses the prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and management of injuries and conditions that affect the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, and muscles of children and adolescents
  • Helps children achieve their highest level of independent functioning and healthy living
  • Provides a bridge between the medical model of care and community-based healthy living

General Rehabilitation Clinic

Patients are accepted to Children’s at Lakeshore through the referral of a Children’s of Alabama physician. At the facility, medical professionals evaluate and provide patients with a customized rehabilitation treatment program designed specifically for their needs in an outpatient program. To help a child meet their full potential, their progress, outcomes, and future needs are carefully monitored.
Children with the following conditions may benefit from evaluation at Children’s at Lakeshore:

  • Cerebral palsy
  • Muscular dystrophy
  • Spina Bifida
  • Traumatic brain injury
  • Spinal cord injury
