Stacy Tanaka, MD, MS, FACS, FAAP Dr. Tanaka is a Professor and Chief of Pediatric Urology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham / Children’s of Alabama. Her research interests include neuropathic and non-neuropathic bladder dysfunction. She is the scientific vice-chair for the CDC Spina Bifida Urologic Protocol for Infants and Children and is on the board of the International Children’s Continence Society. She is the editor of AUANews, the official news magazine of the American Urological Association. She has also previously served on the American Board of Urology examination committee and as an Assistant Editor for the pediatric section of the Journal of Urology. Timothy Boswell, MD Dr. Boswell is an Assistant Professor of Urology at Children’s of Alabama and UAB. He cares for all pediatric urology conditions, with a focus on reconstructive surgeries and long-term patient outcomes including the effects of transitioning from childhood to adulthood. He is a member of the American Urology Association, Societies of Pediatric Urology, Society of Fetal Urology, American Association of Pediatrics, Alpha Omega Alpha national medical honor society, and the Gold Humanism Honor Society. David Joseph, MD, FAAP Dr. Joseph is the Beverly P. Head Endowed Chair and Professor in Pediatric Urology at Children’s of Alabama and University of Alabama at Birmingham. He previously served on the Executive Committees of the Societies for Pediatric Urology and American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Urology. He was the past president of their Spina Bifida Association Professional Advisory Committee and a past member of the SBA Board of Directors. He most recently co-directed the Spina Bifida World Congress in Tuczon, AZ in 2023, having been co-director 3 previous times. He has had a primary role in the development of the CDC – Spina Bifida Patient Registry and the UMPIRE protocol (Urologic Management to Preserve Initial Renal Function). He currently is the PI for both CDC grants and is working with ReachAnother Foundation helping to develop a urologic management program in Ethiopia for children born with Spina Bifida. From an educational standpoint, Dr. Joseph sits on the ACGME Urology Review Committee and has served on the ACGME Pediatric Urology Milestone Update Committee. He has served as Secretary-Treasurer, President, and Chair of the ABU Executive Committee. He currently is the Chair of Lifelong Learning and directs Continuing Urologic Certification.

David Kitchens, MD, FAAP Dr. Kitchens is an Associate Professor of Urology in the UAB Department of Urology’s Section of Pediatric Urology. After graduating from the University of South Alabama College of Medicine, he completed a Urology Residency at the University of Cincinnati and finished his training in a Pediatric Urology Fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. He currently serves on the Urology Residency’s Clinical Competency Committee and Program Evaluation Committee. He also serves on the Children’s of Alabama Physician’s Peer Review Committee. He has won the Faculty Teaching Award twice during his tenure at UAB. His clinical interests include hypospadias, genitourinary reconstructive surgery, vesicoureteral reflux, hydronephrosis, and is the only Urologist currently offering Extracorporeal Shockwave Lithotripsy to pediatric patients in Alabama for treatment of kidney stones. Ching Man Carmen Tong, DO Dr. Tong is a pediatric urologist and director of pediatric robotic surgery at Children’s of Alabama. Dr. Tong’s clinical practice and research is dedicated to spina bifida, hypospadias, urinary tract reconstruction and minimally invasive surgery in children. Within UAB, she serves as co-chair of Communications and Dissemination of AAPI Faculty Association Committee and liaison for the Department of Urology to the School of Medicine Office for Diversity and Inclusion. She is a member of the Urology Care Foundation Technology & Publications Committee, The AAP Surgical Advisory Panel Rural Health Workgroup, Societies for Pediatric Urology Social Media Task Force, and the American College of Surgeons NSQIP-Pediatric Specialty Advisory Council for Pediatric Urology.
