Cardiovascular Nurses and Support Staff
Cardiovascular (CV) nurses are highly specialized and have additional acquired knowledge in areas such as cardiology, cardiac surgery, and cardiac catheterization. Furthermore, they possess advanced clinical assessment skills and play a key role in the medical management of patients while implementing evidence-based practice. The CV nurses at Children's of Alabama take pride in the excellent care given to all CV patients. The nurses work diligently to care for each patient's needs as they receive the necessary procedure and/or treatment. They take a multi-disciplinary approach and include the patient as well as the family when providing education as they prepare them for discharge. Together with the rest of the team, the CV nurses are committed to the well-being of the patients and improving the lives of those affected by congenital/acquired heart disease.
In addition to our nurses, we have support staff who aid in providing excellent patient care. This includes unit clerks, clinical assistants, unit support specialists, and telemetry techs. These members of the team are also specifically trained to care for CV patients. They provide services such as clerical duties, supply management, assistance with activities of daily living, monitoring patients heart rate and rhythm continuously, and many other tasks to assist the patients and families during their stay.
