Cardiac Anesthesia
Children's of Alabama is dedicated to providing superior anesthetic care to our patients with congenital heart disease. our division of cardiothoracic anesthesia is a group of highly trained and experienced anesthesiologists and nurse anesthetists specialized in providing care for these children. We provide anesthesia services in the cardiac operating rooms, catheterization laboratories, and in the cardiac intensive care unit.
Children with congenital heart disease present special challenges to the anesthesiologist. In addition to a thorough knowledge of pediatric anesthesia, our anesthesiologists specializing in care of the child with cardiac disease have a thorough knowledge of cardiopulmonary physiology and pharmacology as it relates to your individual child and the planned operation. Together with the pediatric cardiologists, pediatric cardiac surgeons, and pediatric intensivists, we are an integral part of the team caring for your child.
Our group consists of:
- 4 Board Certified Cardiac Anesthesiologists
- 8 Nurse Anesthetists (CRNA's) with focused training in Cardiac Anesthesia
Each year our highly experienced team members provide approximately 1000 anesthetics to infants, children, and adolescents for a wide variety of cardiac and related procedures. To develop a plan of care for your child, a member of our team will meet with you before surgery to discuss the anesthetic and answer your questions. We look forward to providing you and your child the best and most personalized care available.
