Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders

Having a child diagnosed with cancer or a blood disorder can be one of the most challenging experiences of a parent’s life. That’s why the Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders is here. Our dedicated, multidisciplinary team is here for you and your child through every step of your journey, providing leading-edge care along with education and support for the whole family.

Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood DisordersThe Alabama Center for Childhood Cancer and Blood Disorders is a partnership between Children’s of Alabama, the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) Division of Pediatric Hematology, Oncology, and Blood and Marrow Transplantation Program, the O’Neal Comprehensive Cancer Center at UAB, and national childhood research entities including the National Cancer Institute and the Children’s Oncology Group.

We care for more than 2,000 children and young adults who have cancer, sickle cell disease and blood disorders. Diagnoses can include leukemia, lymphoma, brain and spinal cord tumors, solid tumors of muscle and bone, kidney and liver tumors, rare childhood cancers and hemophilia. We are also the only dedicated pediatric blood and marrow transplantation program in the Alabama.

From our ground-breaking research to the family-centered care at the heart of our mission, we offer comprehensive care, education and support to patients and their families. Our physicians are actively working toward finding a cure through research and the development of innovative therapies.

Over the last two years, we increased the number of clinical trials we offer from 75 to more than 100. This means Alabama children diagnosed with cancer or blood disorders don’t have to travel outside the state to receive cutting-edge treatments, which are often their best hope for a cure.

While your child is being treated, they’ll have access to social workers, child life specialists, pastoral care and other support staff. Even after your child’s cancer journey is over, we offer lifelong care through our Taking On Life after Cancer (TLC) clinic. We are committed to helping you and your child throughout your journey.
