Special Interests
Dr. Romp is Pediatric Cardiologist, Associate Professor, Division of Pediatric Cardiology, Department of Pediatrics, University of Alabama at Birmingham; Medical Director , Cardiology Inpatient Services, Children's of Alabama. He enjoys caring for a broad spectrum of pediatric cardiac diseases, from fetal malformations to acquired diseases of older children and adolescents. Dr. Romp helped establish the Fetal Cardiac Diagnosis Center, where congenital malformations are recognized and care plans made by a multidisciplinary team consisting of cardiologists, obstetricians, and geneticists. The goal is to provide comprehensive care to both the mother and the infant. Other interests revolve around the use of non-invasive imaging to diagnose complex congenital heart defects. These imaging modalities include all types of echocardiography, including transthoracic, transesophageal, and fetal echo. CT angiograms are increasingly useful for imaging complex vascular malformations and providing 3D images that make the relationships of the different structures more easily understood. This is vital to planning complex operations.
