Express Oil Change & Tire Engineers Reaches $1 Million Milestone in Supporting Children’s of Alabama
April 3, 2023
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (April 3, 2023) – Express Oil Change and Tire Engineers, a longstanding supporter of Children’s of Alabama, was presented a plaque on the Pillars of the Community display in the hospital to represent their cumulative gifts of more than $1 million to Children’s.
Since 2008, Express Oil Change and Tire Engineers has been the sole supporter of Children’s Art and Expressive Therapy program through the Changing Oil, Changing Lives campaign. Each year, the Alabama locations donate $1 for every oil change completed during the month of April.
“Every oil change helps to make a difference,” said Jim Durkin, president of Express Oil Change and Tire Engineers. “Because our customers support this campaign, more than $1 million dollars to date has been donated to art therapy that helps pediatric patients process diagnoses and treatments that no kid should have to face.”
The Children’s Art and Expressive Therapy program provides a creative outlet for patients through art. Children’s Child Life and University of Alabama at Birmingham’s Arts in Medicine collaborate to create an environment where patients can be involved in a meaningful creative activity. This enables patients to have a time of relief and an escape from the powerful emotions that come with a hospital admission.
“Express Oil Change and Tire Engineers’ commitment has grown the Children’s Art and Expressive Therapy program from the ground up and continues to provide a vast population of inpatients an opportunity to have a creative outlet,” said Emily Hornak, Director of Cause Marketing at Children’s of Alabama. “We are so grateful for the ways the Changing Oil, Changing Lives campaign has impacted Children’s over the last 15 years.”
Children’s recognizes individuals, corporations and organizations as Pillars of the Community when their dedicated support of the hospital has reached $1 million. The addition of Express Oil Change and Tire Engineers to the pillars signifies over 15 years of commitment to creating brighter futures for Alabama’s kids.
