Birmingham, Ala. (Oct. 8, 2024) — Children’s of Alabama is again ranked among the nation’s best hospitals and the best hospital for children in Alabama by U.S. News & World Report.

“We are pleased to be once again ranked among the best children’s hospitals in the nation and the best hospital for children in Alabama,” said Tom Shufflebarger, Children’s of Alabama CEO and President. “We appreciate this recognition of the hard work and dedication of our staff and physician partners at the UAB School of Medicine. Enhancing the quality of care for our patients will always remain a top priority at Children’s.”

This is the 15th consecutive year that Children’s has participated in the U.S. News & World Report rankings program. Each year, the state’s only free-standing pediatric hospital has been included in the rankings among the best children’s hospitals in the nation. Children’s is the primary site for pediatric clinical and educational programs for the UAB School of Medicine. Since 1911, Children’s has provided specialized medical care for ill and injured children, offering inpatient and outpatient services throughout Alabama.

U.S. News & World Report introduced the Best Children’s Hospital rankings in 2007. Children’s and the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) began participating during the 2010-2011 cycle. The rankings give families an exclusive look at quality-related information at the individual hospital level. To create the pediatric rankings, U.S. News & World Report gathers critical clinical data through a detailed survey that looks at patient safety, infection prevention, and the adequacy of the nursing staff. Also, part of the hospital’s score comes from surveys of more than 15,000 pediatric specialists who are asked where they would send the sickest children in their specialty.
