An emergency is when the patient or others are in danger or there is the high risk of dangerous behavior.
Behavioral Health Ireland Center has offices in two locations, Children's Hospital and Lakeshore. Offices are open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., excluding major holidays. See Maps and Directions for more information about our clinic locations.

If an emergency occurs during office hours, please call and let the receptionist know that you have an emergency. If the patient has more than one doctor, please leave a message for each doctor. Your doctor or nurse will return your call as soon possible. If you are unable to wait for a return phone call or if someone is hurt or in immediate danger of being hurt, please go to the nearest emergency room. If the patient cannot be safely transported by car, you may need to call 911 for help.
If an emergency occurs after hours, on a weekend or during a holiday, please call 205-934-3411 to reach the UAB Psychiatry Resident or Fellow on-call. This doctor will be able to help you make choices regarding your emergency. Again, if you are unable to wait for a return phone call or if someone is hurt or in danger of being hurt, please go to the nearest emergency room. If the patient cannot be safely transported by car, you may need to call 911 for help.
If you have a routine question or concern during business hours, please leave a message with the receptionist and your doctor or a nurse will return your call.
