Modes of Transport
Children's CARE Flight Critical Care Transport is the only pediatric/neonatal team in Alabama that utilizes a dedicated helicopter for transport missions. This aircraft is used solely by Children's Hospital for inter-facility patient transfers. The availability of this helicopter enables the CARE Flight team to respond faster than ever before. We continue to offer MICU ambulance transports which allow us to operate when weather conditions prevent safe helicopter operations and we also offer twin engine jet airplane transfers for long distance transports.
The equipment on every transport is specifically designed for pediatric or neonatal patients and their needs. Specialized, patient specific equipment is loaded for every trip. Some examples are: pediatric and neonatal transport ventilators, inhaled Nitric Oxide therapy, multiple intravenous infusion pumps, and a specialized stretcher with size appropriate safety restraints or a temperature controlled transport isolette.
