Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Surgery

brachial_plexus_injury.jpgThe Brachial Plexus and Peripheral Nerve Surgery Program at Children's of Alabama provides comprehensive care for children suffering from brachial plexus or other peripheral nerve injuries. This multidisciplinary program includes pediatric neurosurgery, pediatric rehabilitation medicine, occupational therapy, and orthopedic surgery, all specialists in brachial plexus and peripheral nerve injuries. Their approach is both surgical and non-surgical, aiming to improve nerve function through procedures like external and internal neurolysis, nerve grafting, nerve transfers, and nerve repair. The team also has expertise in secondary reconstruction procedures, such as tendon transfers and osteotomies, which are an important component of comprehensive care for brachial plexus injury. Additionally, extensive occupational therapy directed by Pediatric Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is provided to support recovery and functional improvement.

The program prioritizes focused and specialized care, emphasizing both operative and non-operative management strategies tailored to the unique needs of pediatric patients.
