Advanced Practice Nurse
Welcome to Children's of Alabama (COA).
In order to gain entry and access to patients, patient's medical records and/or staff located in any COA facility, Non-COA Nursing Professionals will apply for privileges before access is allowed. This privileging process applies to individuals who perform clinical nursing duties either independently or under the direct supervision of a member of Children's Hospital Medical or Nursing Staff. Other individuals who must apply for privileges include nurses conducting research involving patient contact.
Advanced Practice Nurse has to attend Nursing Service Orientation and possibly clinic orientation and submit the following documents to Charles Gooch in Nursing Education and Research Center.
Orientation
Depending on your duties while here at COA the following Orientation/s have to be completed:
__ Hospital Orientation (week long) (click here for more information)
__ Specialty Care Services Clinic area Orientation; meet with the SCS Educator for Orientation to the clinic at 638-5114. When completed send a copy of the form to Charles Gooch for your file.
__ Get ID Badge from Security

3.__ Non-COA Bedside Nurse with Patient Care Contact Continuing Competency Review Document (click here)
Your supervisor is to complete this document verifying the following:
__ You are qualified to provide bedside Patient Care for Pediatric Patients
__ You have a current nursing license to practice in the State of Alabama
__ Your Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) training is up-to-date and you have a current card
__ You are current with TB Skin Testing
__ And your Varicella Status-Positive Titers, Immunizations and Hepatitis B Vaccine has been done or documented

4.__ Documents that must be turned into the Chief Nurse Office Secretary in Administration, 638-9664, to be submitted to the Children's of Alabama Board or Trustees for approval for privileges:
__ Copy of Current certification
__ Copy of Initial ABN Collaborative Practice Application
__ Copy or temporary and/or permanent approval from the ABN
Please route the completed forms (1,2,3) to Charles Gooch , Nursing Education and Research office, Suite 410, in the Children's Harbor building of Children's Hospital. These items must be received within 30 days of notification to receive privileges.
